2Ĭurrent treatment modalities are open reduction, percutaneous fixation, dynamic external fixation, extension block pinning, and hemi-hamate arthroplasty. These potential complications result in a hand injury that has historically been difficult to treat. Furthermore, PIPJ fracture-dislocations with suboptimal treatment can present as chronic joint instability, pain, osteoarthritis, and intra-articular deformity. PIPJ fracture-dislocations can result in significant digit range of motion (ROM) limitation and subsequent occupational disability. The proximal interphalangeal joint (PIPJ) accounts for approximately 85% of joint motion that enables grasping an object, 1 thus fracture-dislocations or fracture-subluxations can have an immense impact upon hand utility. No treatment method or fracture type yielded consistently better outcomes than another. While dorsal fracture-dislocations produced higher average ROM and lower QuickDASH score, pilon fractures produced a higher grip strength. Conclusion: Percutaneous fixation yielded the highest post-operative ROM at final follow-up while extension-block pinning resulted in the greatest grip strength. Dorsal fracture-dislocations, regardless of surgical method, had an average ROM of 83.2 (n = 321), grip strength 91% (n = 132), and QuickDASH of 6.6 (n = 59) while pilon injuries had an average ROM of 80.2 (n = 48), grip strength 100% (n = 13), and QuickDASH of 11.4 (n = 13). The weighted means of post-operative range of motion (ROM degrees) at final follow-up were open reduction 84.7 (n = 146), percutaneous fixation 86.5 (n = 32), dynamic external fixation 81.7 (n = 389), extension-block pinning 83.6 (n = 85), and hemi-hamate arthroplasty 79.3 (n = 52). Results: Forty-eight of 1679 total screened articles were included. Articles were distributed into 5 groups by surgical method: open reduction, percutaneous fixation, dynamic external fixation, extension-block pinning, and hemi-hamate arthroplasty. Outcomes of interest included PIPJ range of motion, grip strength (% of contralateral hand), and quick disabilities of arm, shoulder, hand (QuickDASH). Methods: A literature review of PubMed and EMBASE databases was performed for all articles on PIPJ fracture-dislocations. The purpose of this systematic review of the literature is to report the post-operative outcomes of multiple treatment modalities for PIPJ fracture-dislocations in various studies. Several surgical methods have been utilized for management of these injuries, none of which have shown consistently favorable results. Background: Treatment of proximal interphalangeal joint (PIPJ) fracture-dislocations is difficult given the potential long-term complications of the involved finger and entire hand. Once weakened, the concrete wheel stop can get chipped and cracked from repeated contact with vehicle wheels. However, one of the major cons of concrete wheel stops is that, if they are installed outdoors and get constantly exposed to the sun, rain, snow and other natural elements, they grow weak over time. So long as the concrete stoppers are not water-logged, they can last for a long time. In addition, concrete barriers can be very durable and long-lasting, especially when installed indoors, as they are protected from exposure to the elements. Due to this, concrete stops are very stable once secured into place and would do a very good job of barricading vehicles from going over their designated parking spots. One huge advantage of concrete wheel stops compared to other materials is they are very heavy. Although both options serve the same purpose, there are certain advantages and disadvantages to be considered before choosing the best wheel stop material to be installed in your parking facility, truck stop, garage, or impound lot.Ĭoncrete wheel stops can be installed both indoors and outdoors. However, the most popular are either concrete or rubber as they are the most economical and practical options in a long-term perspective. Parking wheel stops are made using four major materials: concrete, rubber, plastic and metal. The main purpose of these barriers is to ensure safety for the vehicle, passing pedestrians, and the property itself (in cases where parking spots are located near walls, fences, or landscaping and foliage). Regardless of what they are called, wheel stops act as barriers and prevent a vehicle from driving over or coasting beyond the designated parking slot onto sidewalks, accessible ramps, or adjacent stalls in case the driver fails to put on the hand or floor brakes on time. They are usually found on parking lots, car parks, medical facilities, shopping areas, garages for rent, and other establishments that offer temporary and long-term parking. Wheel stops are also called parking blocks, tire stoppers, wheel stoppers, and curb stops. In parking facilities, wheel stops serve the same function: to keep a vehicle from going beyond its allotted parking space and cause damage or injuries. This can be fixed by grinding the surface smooth after the concrete wheel stop has been removed.Aircraft carriers have arresting cables that help prevent jets from taxiing over the deck and fall overboard. If the wheel stop has been glued down, the surface under the wheel stop will be very rough after breaking the wheel stop away. If this is the case, you will have to jack hammer or sledgehammer the complete wheel stop. One potential issue with removing concrete wheel stops is if the concrete wheel stop was installed with adhesive or epoxy on its base. The positioning pins will need to be grinded down to surface level.

Linton is one of the more skillful players on the tour, as he's shot 52 aces since he began playing in May 1987. While some regions favor wide-open fairways, Southern disc golf courses are often set in wooded areas which require navigational skills. John Linton of Memphis has also noticed differences in the game. "Down South, it's more casual and laid back." They wear collared shirts when playing," Holoch, of Pearcy, Ark. "In Minnesota it's treated more professionally, like a big-time sport. While on the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) tour, 1997 Amateur World Champion Thor Holoch noticed Southern players take a different approach to the game. That attitude may be unique to the South. "We're all out here to have a good time." "I never met a disc golfer I didn't like," he says. Shows believes people are the reason disc golf is prospering in the South. Shows is a member of "The Twin City Chain Gang," a disc golf organization started in March that already has 35 members.
